Royals Fan Details Most Bizarre Zack Greinke Story Yet
Major League Baseball is filled with interesting personalities, including Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Zack Greinke. The 38-year-old veteran has never been shy to hide who he is, leading to several memorable moments, including one that a fan experience on Sunday.
A Royals fan named James posted to Facebook that he tried to get Greinke to autograph a baseball before Sunday's Royals vs. Oakland Athletics game. Just when it looked like the hurler was going to sign the ball, he allegedly threw it away, having the most bizarre explanation for doing what he did.
Kansas City Royals News
When James asked Greinke why he threw the ball, the former 2002 first-round pick said that he did it "for his amusement." Even though it's perfectly fine if an athlete doesn't want to sign an autograph, hurling a ball away just because he wanted to is a bit strange, even for Greinke.
Greinke made his return to the Royals lineup on Friday after missing about a month with an elbow flexor strain. He looked fantastic in the 3-1 victory for Kansas City, allowing one run on three hits while striking out four batters over six innings of work.
That's the type of performance the former Cy Young winner needed after a rocky start to his second tenure with the Royals. He's now 1-4 in 11 starts this season with a 4.68 ERA and 1.266 WHIP.
As an upcoming free agent, the Royals may trade Greinke ahead of this year's MLB trade deadline. Hopefully, he can continue pitching well to improve his trade value. As for his bizarre interactions with fans, don't expect that to change anytime soon.
