College football bowl season is finally here. One intriguing matchup this year is the Rose Bowl, which will pit the No. 11 Utah Utes against the No. 6 Ohio State Buckeyes.

Rose Bowl History

The Rose Bowl has been played yearly since 1916, though was first played in 1902. It was originally referred to as the Tournament East-West football game. This changed in 1923, when it became the Rose Bowl.

Ohio State has an 8-7 record in 16 all-time Rose Bowl appearances — the third-most appearances of any team. The Buckeyes defeated Washington, 28-23, in their most recent appearance in the 2019 Rose Bowl.

This will be Utah's first ever Rose Bowl appearance.
