Richard Sherman Trolls Russell Wilson on Twitter After Costly Week 5 Mistake

Updated:

Richard Sherman has not been shy about calling out former teammate Russell Wilson this season.

After trolling Wilson--now with the Denver Broncos--during his Week 1 game against the Seahawks, Sherman was at it again during Denver's ugly 12-9 loss to the Indianapolis Colts on Thursday Night Football in Week 5. The Seattle Seahawks legend was quick to react when Wilson threw a devastating pick in the end zone late in the fourth quarter, posting a pair of tweets in rapid succession.

Whereas Sherman's Week 1 shots at Wilson were more ambiguous, his tweets here are a direct callback to Wilson's goal-line interception in a similar situation during Super Bowl XLIX versus the New England Patriots. The GIF he posted was his heartbreaking reaction to Wilson's game-losing pick, which cost Seattle its second straight Super Bowl victory.

Sherman wasn't the only person having flashbacks after Wilson's latest miscue, as many Seahawks fans probably did as well. The team hasn't returned to the Super Bowl since and now has Geno Smith running the offense after Wilson was traded to the Broncos last offseason.

Wilson has not played well since joining Denver, especially during its two primetime games thus far. He's 2-3 with his new team with only 4 touchdowns and 3 interceptions in his first five games. While new head coach Nathaniel Hackett has taken responsibility for the Broncos' struggles as well, it's clear their star signal-caller needs to start executing better on the field as well. If he doesn't, the criticism from Sherman and others is only going to get louder.

Denver and its scuffling quarterback will try to bounce back on the road against the Los Angeles Chargers during Week 6, where the Broncos are currently 4.5-point underdogs on FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds.
