2022 MLB Playoffs — World Series Game 2 (PHI Leads 1-0)

The 2022 World Series kicked off on Friday with plenty of drama. The Houston Astros led 5-0 after three innings, only for the Philadelphia Phillies to score six unanswered for the 6-5 victory and the 1-0 series lead on the road.

The defeat marked the Astros' first loss of the postseason, making it interesting to see how they bounce back. Can the Phillies figure out a way to take the 2-0 series lead? Or will the Astros use the home-field advantage to even things up before it's too late?

Phillies vs Astros Prediction & Pick

Having entered the World Series as underdogs, the Phillies need to do everything they can to take the 2-0 series lead. That means starting pitcher Zack Wheeler needs to be on top of his game. The 32-year-old veteran is 1-1 with a 1.78 ERA in four starts this postseason but has never faced Houston in his eight MLB seasons.

Meanwhile, the Astros hope that Framber Valdez has a better start than Justin Verlander did in Game 1. Valdez pitched seven scoreless innings in his lone start against the New York Yankees in the ALCS and didn't allow a run on two hits over fiving innings in a 3-2 victory against the Phillies back on Oct. 5.

Even though the Phillies feed off southpaws (.770 OPS vs. lefties, T-No. 4 in MLB), it's tough imagining a world where the Astros go down 0-2 in the World Series. Houston has been here before and knows how to get the job done on baseball's biggest stage, leading to my backing the Astros to win Game 2.

Final Score Prediction: Phillies: 3 | Astros: 5

Phillies vs Astros Probable Starting Pitchers

The Philadelphia Phillies will look to Zack Wheeler (12-7, 2.82 ERA) in Game 1 and the Houston Astros hand the ball to Framber Valdez (17-6, 2.82 ERA).
