Perform Horse Trainer and Jockey

Perform is trained by Shug McGaughey, who was inducted into the Racing Hall of Fame back in 2004. The renowned trainer has guided horses to wins at the Belmont Stakes as well as the Kentucky Derby but has yet to capture a win at the Preakness. He is hoping Perform can change that fact.

Perform's jockey for the 2023 Preakness is Feargal Lynch. The 45-year-old has crossed the finish line aboard the winning horse numerous times in his career, but it has yet to happen in the Preakness.

Perform Race History

Perform has a career record of seven starts and two wins with one second-place finish all-time. He'll run in the Preakness just one month since his most recent victory, which came at the 2023 Federico Tesio Stakes at Laurel Park.

Perform Preakness Prediction and Pick

Perform picked as good a time as any to put together the best races of his career. The colt is coming off back-to-back victories at Tampa Bay Downs and Laurel Park, which puts him in a great spot to keep up with the competition on Saturday.

It's worth noting that Perform has competed in seven races at seven different race courses, which showcases that he is capable of adjusting to his surroundings both below his hooves as well as at eye level. Being trained by a Hall-of-Famer is always viewed as an advantage, too, and forges Perform into a true dark horse contender at Pimlico Race Course this weekend.
