New England Patriots (0-0, 0-0 Away) vs. Miami Dolphins (0-0, 0-0 Home)
Date: Sunday, Sept. 11, 2022
Time: 1 p.m. ET
Venue: Hard Rock Stadium — Miami Gardens, FL
Coverage: CBS

Week 1 of the 2022 NFL season includes a showdown between the New England Patriots and Miami Dolphins. While the Patriots returned to the playoffs last season after a one-year absence, they failed to win a postseason game for the third straight year. Everyone knows that Bill Belichick hates losing, so expect a strong start by the Pats.

On the other hand, expectations are high for the Dolphins' new-look offense following the offseason additions of Tyreek Hill, Terron Armstead and Cedrick Wilson Jr. With both the offense and defense looking promising, Miami will need an all-around effort to get Mike McDaniel a victory in his first win behind the bench.

Moneyline: NE: (+148) | MIA: (-178)

Total: 46.5 — Over: (-105) | Under: (-115)

Updated (Sunday, Sept. 11, 11:45 a.m. EST): Updated odds were provided from FanDuel Sportsbook. The odds have held pretty steady over the last few days, although a bit more money has gone towards the Dolphins with their moneyline increasing slightly to -178. The spread has remained the same at 3.5 points, however.

The Dolphins enter this contest as the favorite on the moneyline and the spread. This 1 p.m. ET clash also features a total of 46.5, which is about average compared to this week's NFL projected totals.

Patriots vs Dolphins Prediction & Pick

Though the Patriots had more success than the Dolphins last season, this is hardly the best team that New England has put forth. While they averaged 26.6 points per game last year (No. 7), the offense took a serious dip away from Gillette Stadium (22.0 PPG, No. 17).

Offensively, the Dolphins have the better team here and the WR duo of Hill and Jaylen Waddle might be too much for New England to handle if things get rolling early on. Considering that Miami has won four of its last five games against its AFC East rivals, including both games in 2021, I could see the Dolphins starting the year with a win.

Final Score Prediction: Dolphins: 24 | Patriots: 20

Patriots vs Dolphins Betting Trends

- New England is 2-7 against the spread (ATS) in its last nine games against Miami.
- Miami is 6-0 straight up in its last six home games.
- The total has hit the under in nine of New England's last 13 road games.
- The total has hit the under in six of Miami's last nine games against New England.

Patriots vs Dolphins Best Bet

Not only have the Dolphins had a ton of straight-up success against the Patriots lately, but they've also done well on the spread. Given that I like the Dolphins a lot more this time around and that they're 7-2 ATS in their last nine games against the Pats, give me Miami covering the 3.5-point spread.

Bet: Dolphins -3.5 (-104)
