Week 8 of the 2022 NFL season includes an NFC South collision between the Carolina Panthers and Atlanta Falcons. The Panthers may have traded away star running back Christian McCaffrey last week, but that didn't stop them from snagging a 21-3 victory against the division-leading Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

After winning three games in a four-week stretch, the Falcons were brought down to earth with a 35-17 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. Atlanta didn't give its fans much to be excited about as the offensive unit only produced 214 total yards, averaging out to just 4.8 yards per play.

Panthers vs Falcons Odds & Spread

All NFL betting lines, odds and prop bets are from FanDuel Sportsbook.
Moneyline: CAR: (+176) | ATL: (-210)
Spread: CAR: +4.5 (-110) | ATL: -4.5 (-110)
Total: 41.5 —Over: (-110) | Under: (-110)

The Falcons enter this contest as slight favorites on the moneyline and spread on FanDuel Sportsbook's updated odds. This NFC South clash also features a total of 41.5, which is one the low side of the Week 8 totals.

Panthers vs Falcons Prediction & Pick

This NFC South rivalry has leaned in the Falcons' favor over the last five or so years, winning seven of their last nine games against the Panthers. Having said that, Carolina has also won both of its last two trips to Mercedes-Benz Stadium by a combined score of 42-29.

I do expect the Panthers' road success in this rivalry to end this week, though. While their effort against the Bucs was their best performance of the year, it was an outlier. In the three games leading up to that victory, Carolina only produced 13.7 points per game. Now that McCaffrey is gone, offense will be hard to come by as the season continues.

Even if the Falcons' offense hasn't been consistent either, they're still averaging the 12th-most points in the NFL. They've also beaten the San Francisco 49ers and Cleveland Browns in their last two home games and the argument can be made that both of those teams have more talent than the Panthers.

I'm taking the Falcons to win in a game that means a lot for the NFC South standings.

Final Score Prediction: Falcons: 23 | Panthers: 16

Panthers vs Falcons Betting Trends

- Carolina is 2-7 against the spread (ATS) in its last nine games against Atlanta.
- Atlanta is 4-1 straight up in its last five games as the favorite.
- The total has hit the under in five of Carolina's last six games.
- The total has hit the under in six of Carolina's last eight home games.

Panthers vs Falcons Best Bet

While some rivalry games can result in high-scoring affairs, don't expect that when the Panthers and Falcons meet. The two sides have averaged a total of just 41.3 points in their last 10 meetings. Furthermore, Carolina and Atlanta have only surpassed this week's projected 41.5-point total four times over that stretch.

With the total also hitting the under in 13 of the last 18 head-to-head matchups, I'm backing the Panthers and Falcons to finish with the under yet again.

Bet: Under 41.5 Points (-110)
