Week 2 of the 2022 NFL season includes a showdown between the Carolina Panthers and New York Giants. The Baker Mayfield-led Panthers couldn't get it done against his former team last week, losing 26-24 to the Cleveland Browns. Mayfield's performance wasn't anything crazy, throwing for 235 yards and a touchdown with an interception while also rushing the ball into the end zone once.

Meanwhile, the Giants did find success in a 21-20 upset win over the Tennessee Titans. Head coach Brian Daboll's presence had a positive impact on running back Saquon Barkley, who racked up 164 yards and a TD on 18 carries.

The Giants enter this contest as the favorite on the moneyline and the spread. This 1 p.m. ET clash also features a total of 42.5, which is somewhat low compared to this week's NFL projected totals.

Panthers vs Giants Prediction & Pick

Out of the two teams, it was the Giants that had the more impressive effort last week. It helps that Barkley finally looks like his old self while Daniel Jones was competent under center. Meanwhile, the Panthers were asleep for the first three quarters, entering the fourth quarter against the Browns down 20-3.

If the Panthers come out with a similar effort this week, they'll be in trouble. The Giants seem more structured under Daboll and aren't making as many mistakes as in previous years. Even if it's only a small sample size, I like more of what I saw from New York than Carolina in Week 1.

Unless the Panthers start stronger and actually utilize Christian McCaffrey, I'm expecting the Giants to start the 2022 campaign with a 2-0 record.
