Panthers vs Falcons Prediction, Odds & Best Bet for NFL Week 8

Updated:

Week 8 of the 2022 NFL season is here, bringing a few exciting matchups. An NFC South rivalry will be on full display this week when the Carolina Panthers pay a visit to the Atlanta Falcons. After all, whoever wins this game will be in sole possession of the division's No. 1 spot.

Can the Panthers improve to 2-0 in the post-Christian McCaffrey era? Or will the Falcons find a way to pick up their third straight home victory?

Panthers vs Falcons Odds

According to FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds, the Falcons are a clear -210 favorite on the moneyline (4-point spread) in a game with an over/under of 41.5.

What should NFL fans expect in this matchup, and where can bettors find value?

Panthers vs Falcons Prediction and Best Bet

Even though the Panthers shocked the world with a win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week, it was an outlier performance, to say the least. The Bucs have been dreadful in recent weeks and the Panthers were fortunate to be in the right place at the right time.

While the Falcons haven't been perfect this season, it's worth noting that they've won seven of the last nine meetings in this rivalry. Atlanta is also tied for the seventh-best scoring offense at home (25.7 PPG) this season, whereas Carolina has the NFL's third-worst road offense (13.0 PPG) thus far.

The Panthers also only have two offensive weapons in wideout DJ Moore and running back D'Onta Foreman. Moore has been streaky all season and while Foreman impressed last week, any sort of injury could completely derail Carolina's gameplan with backup RB Chuba Hubbard already ruled out.

Throw in the fact that the Panthers are 1-3 in their last four games and 0-2 on the road, it's hard to trust them whatsoever. The Falcons should win this game without much issue, covering the 4-point spread in the process. After all, they are 10-4 against the spread in their last 14 games with the Panthers.

I'm also inclined to take the total hitting under 41.5 points, especially with the Panthers only averaging 15.5 points in their last four games. The Falcons' offense is much better, however, I don't think it's good enough to lead to the over.
