Padres Trade Rumors Link Team to Potential Dinelson Lamet Move

The San Diego Padres are off to a hot start to the 2022 MLB season, opening with a 14-7 record that has them tied with the Los Angeles Dodgers for first in the NL West.

The Padres' 4.67 runs scored per game (No. 6) has been a big reason behind their success and the club is reportedly looking to further bolster their offense. The only thing is that it could come at the cost of moving right-handed pitcher Dinelson Lamet.

The Athletic's Dennis Lin reported on Saturday that the Padres have talked with other teams about a potential Lamet deal. The 29-year-old is making just over $4.7 million with two more years of arbitration left.

Lamet has begun the current campaign in the bullpen after starting in 56 of his previous 69 games played. He's struggled out of the gate so far, giving up four earned runs and four walks in only 6.2 innings pitched.

It was only in the 2020 MLB season when Lamet finished fourth in NL Cy Young voting. He hasn't come close to reaching those heights since then, but any team that believes a change of scenery might help should explore a potential deal.

The Padres are currently tied with the San Francisco Giants and Tampa Bay Rays for the ninth-best World Series odds (+1800), according to FanDuel Sportsbook. Moving Lamet for another dangerous bat might be exactly what it takes to boost those odds even more.
