The San Diego Padres walked out of Citi Field after stunning the New York Mets in Game 3 of the NL Wild Card series on Sunday night. Starting pitcher Joe Musgrove dominated a talented Mets lineup over 7 innings of 1-hit ball. Robert Suarez and Josh Hader finished off the effort and punched San Diego's ticket to the NLDS.

Now the Padres will face the Los Angeles Dodgers in a best-of-5 series, which kicks off at Dodger Stadium on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 9:37 p.m. ET.

Shortly after San Diego's convincing Wild Card victory, manager Bob Melvin revealed his Game 1 pitcher for the next round.

Padres Game 1 Pitcher

Padres insider Dennis Lin reported that Mike Clevinger will get the ball for Game 1. The 31-year-old veteran made 22 starts for San Diego in 2022, pitching to a 4.33 ERA across 114 1/3 innings in his first season back from Tommy John surgery. He faded down the stretch but has considerable postseason experience from his time with the Cleveland Guardians, appearing in 8 playoff games so far including 2 starts.

Clevinger struggled mightily against the Dodgers this year, however, going 0-2 with a 9.69 ERA in 3 starts against their imposing lineup. That does not bode well for him in the series opener.

The Padres need Clevinger to turn things around if they're going to steal Game 1 from LA on the road. For now, San Diego enters Game 1 as +176 moneyline underdogs, according to the MLB odds on FanDuel Sportsbook.
