Packers Provide Clarity on Christian Watson's Injury

Updated:

The Green Bay Packers were given a scare last week when they revealed that rookie wideout Christian Watson was placed on the PUP list. What's made matters worse is that general manager Brian Gutekunst has kept fans in the dark, saying he wouldn't "put any timetable" on the mysterious issue.

The good news is that the Packers did shed some light on the situation on Thursday. It's been revealed that Watson's injury is knee-related, but, there still isn't any word on when he can finally take to the field again.

Christian Watson Injury Update

On Wednesday, Gutekunst said that Watson's injury emerged during June's organized team activities. While the Packers GM felt as if Watson could've pushed through the issue, the organization opted to have a procedure done last month since they'd rather the rookie "miss a little bit of time in camp" than important games.

Watson's absence is a blow for the Pakcers, hoping to maintain a high level of offense following Davante Adams' departure this offseason. Watson was drafted 34th overall in April to be a top weapon for Aaron Rodgers, but now they're missing out on valuable time to build chemistry.

The good news in Green Bay is that veteran Sammy Watkins is expected to join practice soon. The former Clemson product was placed on the non-football injured reserve on Tuesday but should be back to give Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb some much-needed competition in the WR room.

Hopefully, Watson can also re-join his teammates soon. His 43 receptions, 800 yards and seven touchdowns in 12 games at North Dakota State last season proved that he has a lot of potential. Only time will tell if he can live up to it, helping the Packers succeed in the process.

Packers Super Bowl Odds

Watson seamlessly transitioning to the NFL is one way that he can help Green Bay succeed. After all, expectations are high for the Packers, who own +1200 odds (No. 5) to win Super Bowl LVII, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
