Packers' Failed Trade Offer for Chase Claypool Revealed

The Green Bay Packers were unable to secure a legitimate playmaker for quarterback Aaron Rodgers at the NFL trade deadline, but it wasn't for a lack of trying. Each of the team's trade negotiations ended up falling through, including one with the Pittsburgh Steelers for wide receiver Chase Claypool.

The Packers offered a second-round pick in addition to a late-round pick in exchange for Claypool, according to NFL insider Adam Schefter. It had appeared that Green Bay was in the driver's seat to land the 24-year-old pass-catcher before the Chicago Bears swooped in to acquire him on Tuesday.

It's worth noting Claypool was dealt to the Bears for just a second-round pick. The Steelers believed the Packers were capable of turning their season around, which would've caused their draft picks to decrease in value. Heading into Week 9, both Chicago and Green Bay check in with 3-5 records.

Rodgers said that the inactivity of the Packers at the trade deadline sent a message that "we've got to play with the guys we've got and win with the guys we've got." Green Bay WRs have combined for 1,215 yards and 8 touchdowns on 105 receptions. It's a group led by Allen Lazard and Romeo Doubs.
