Ozzie Albies Hits Another Snag in Rehab Assignment

Updated:

After missing nearly three months with a foot fracture, Atlanta Braves second baseman Ozzie Albies finally returned to the diamond for a brief rehab assignment with Triple-A Gwinnett. Unfortunately, that rehab assignment has faced a variety of obstacles in the early going.

Not only has Albies struggled to shake off some rust, but he's also had issues just getting into game action thanks to some unfortunate weather issues.

Ozzie Albies Injury Update

Albies' rehab assignment hit another snag on Sunday when Gwinnett's scheduled contest was rained out.

Since joining the Triple-A squad back on Sept. 1, Albies made just five appearances in 12 days. This included three rainouts and a pair of doubleheaders to make up for the missed contests.

It's clearly been difficult for Albies to find a groove given this inconsistent schedule. The two-time All-Star is slashing just .167/.167/.167 with four strikeouts across 18 plate appearances.

Earlier this month, Braves insider David O'Brien said it could be a "couple of weeks" before Albies rejoins Atlanta. It's unclear if the Braves will stick to this timeline given the scheduling issues, but if so, Albies will be forced into an expedited rehab process.

Atlanta will be excited when Albies is finally able to return. The Braves can use all the help they can get as they try to topple the New York Mets in the NL East, where they're currently 1.5 games back. FanDuel Sportsbook's MLB odds give Atlanta +175 odds of winning the division.
