The 2023 MLB season kicks off with an Opening Day matchup between the Baltimore Orioles and Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park. These teams have met head-to-head 48 times over the last three season with Boston enjoying a 28-20 record in that span, but these teams line up evenly this summer.

The Orioles will send veteran Kyle Gibson (10-8 record in 2022) to the mound to lead a squad that is otherwise very young, while the Red Sox have given free agent signing Corey Kluber (3.31 career ERA) the Opening Day nod. Which team will start a new campaign with an exciting victory?

Orioles vs. Red Sox Betting Trends

  • Baltimore is 1-5 straight up in its last six games against Boston.
  • The total has hit the under in four of Baltimore's last five away games.
  • Boston posted a 43-38 record across 81 home games last season.
  • The total has hit the under in six of Boston's last nine games against Baltimore.

Orioles vs. Red Sox Prediction & Pick

The Orioles showed a ton of promise throughout the 2022 season as top prospects like catcher Adley Rutschman and infielder Gunnar Henderson made an immediate impact at the MLB level. Baltimore finished with a winning record (83-79) and now has its eyes set on making the playoffs.

It was another story for Boston last summer as the Red Sox finished at the bottom of the AL East with a 78-84 record. The coaching staff is hoping offseason additions like Kluber, Adalberto Mondesi and Justin Turner will be able to help the team overcome losses like JD Martinez and Nathan Eovaldi.

This game could go either way, but I'll side with the home squad. Baltimore lost six of its 10 games at Fenway Park in 2022 and gave up an average of 6.0 runs per game in that span. Boston's has power up and down the lineup with Rafael Devers leading the way and should hit home runs on Thursday.

Final Score Prediction: Orioles: 5 | Red Sox: 6

Orioles vs. Red Sox Best Bet

Taking Boston as a small home favorite has some value here, but backing the over is the best way to go. Games played at Fenway Park last season averaged 9.9 total runs per game. Both Boston and Baltimore finished also outside the top 15 teams in Team ERA last season and did little to add talent to the starting rotations. Gibson's and Kluber's best days are behind them, so back the offenses.

Bet: Over 9 Total Runs (-110)
