Orioles Get Update on John Means' Injury Timeline for 2023

Updated:

Less than two months before the MLB regular season starts, the Baltimore Orioles are eager to build upon their first winning season in six years. To do so, however, they'll need an improved pitching staff.

That's why the return of former All-Star John Means is so important. On Friday, the Orioles learned of an important update for his return from Tommy John surgery.

John Means Injury Update

Team insider Roch Kubatko reports that Means could be ready in July. That's the "earliest" point on his return schedule, assuming he doesn't suffer any setbacks.

Means brings an accomplished arm back to Baltimore's rotation, which was an area of the roster that held the franchise back in 2022. The Orioles won in spite of their lackluster starting rotation, which finished 21st in ERA (4.35) and 22nd in WHIP (1.33).

A former All-Star, the veteran owns a career 3.81 ERA and was regarded as Baltimore's ace before going down. If he can come back healthy for the second half, he might be able to give the Orioles' playoff chances a significant boost.

For now, Baltimore holds +8000 odds to win the 2023 World Series on FanDuel Sportsbook.
