Oliver Marmol Takes Subtle Shot at Yadier Molina Following Saturday's Win

Updated:

The St. Louis Cardinals' bats erupted on Saturday, trouncing the Boston Red Sox 11-2 to get win No. 38 on the season. It's clear manager Oliver Marmol's lineup tweaks are paying off, given this same group has posted a combined 16 runs over their last 10 innings against Boston.

This new-look order features one notable absence, though: Veteran catcher Yadier Molina. While Molina is injured right now, Marmol's comments after Saturday's win made it clear Molina isn't his preferred option at C right now.

Marmol stated "I think that's our best lineup" following the blowout against the Red Sox. This group managed to put up four ninth-inning runs on Friday in Boston, and going back to that same order clearly was the right choice on Saturday, as a six-run sixth inning swung the contest in St. Louis' favor.

The Cardinals' manager has made it clear he won't settle at the catcher position. He's previously been critical of Andrew Knizner, but perhaps his tough love is finally turning into results.

It's been Knizner who's started both games during this explosive run, and Marmol's happiness with the production could mean this is his default order going forward.

It seems Molina, who arrived late and out of shape to Spring Training, has some work to do to get in his manager's good graces once again.
