Ohio State Opens as Huge Home Favorite Over Notre Dame in Early Odds for Week 1

As spring ball kicks into high gear, college football fans are anxiously waiting for the start of the 2022 college football season. Week 1's slate features a big-time clash between Ohio State and Notre Dame to kick things off.

FanDuel Sportsbook's recently released college football odds paint the Buckeyes as clear favorites over the Fighting Irish ahead of their matchup.

Ohio State vs Notre Dame 2022 Spread

Ohio State has opened as a commanding 13.5-point home favorite ahead of this showdown on Saturday, Sept. 3. The Buckeyes own -110 odds to cover the spread, while the Fighting Irish are -110 to cover as 13.5-point road underdogs.

Despite these two teams expected to rank highly in preseason top-25 lists, Vegas is giving a sizable edge to Ohio State.

It's hard to blame them, given the Buckeyes have likely the top quarterback in the nation (and a potential No. 1 pick) in C.J. Stroud, who's coming off on an electric redshirt freshman season where he threw for 4,435 yards and 44 TDs to just 6 INTs.

Leading 2021 wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba and top 2021 rusher TreVeyon Henderson are back as well, giving this offense two electric weapons who can shoulder the load after losing several playmakers to the NFL Draft.

Notre Dame, meanwhile, underwent a regime change this offseason after Brian Kelly departed for LSU. The Fighting Irish will also host a QB competition for the right to succeed Jack Coan, who recently signed with the Indianapolis Colts.

Notre Dame faces an uphill battle to keep up with the firepower of Ohio State. The Buckeyes will look to improve their all-time record against the Fighting Irish to 5-2 when they square off in September.
