Date: Saturday, Nov. 5, 2022
Time: 12 p.m. ET
Venue: Scott Stadium — Charlottesville, VA
Coverage: ACCN

Week 10 of the 2022 NCAA college football season includes an ACC showdown between the No. 17 North Carolina Tar Heels and Virginia Cavaliers. UNC was one of the nation's hottest programs in October, going 4-0 on the month with its most recent winning being a 42-24 effort against Pittsburgh.

Meanwhile, Virginia hasn't been as fortunate. The Cavaliers have lost four of their last five outings, including a 14-12 quadruple overtime loss to Miami over the weekend that saw Virginia held to just four field goals on the day.

UNC enters this contest as a clear road favorite on the spread. This 12 p.m. ET clash also features a total of 58.5, which is about average compared to this week's projected totals.

North Carolina vs Virginia Prediction & Pick

Virginia's four-game winning streak over North Carolina was snapped last season thanks to a 59-39 Tar Heels victory. While the Cavaliers' achievement looks solid on paper, it's worth pointing out that UNC has won eight of its last 12 meetings against its ACC rival.

I fully expect the Tar Heels to continue their success over the Cavaliers. After all, UNC is 4-0 against the ACC this season and has wins over both Duke and Miami — two conference rivals that defeated Virginia at some point this season.

The Cavaliers also generate the eighth-fewest points in the nation (14.4), making it unlikely that they'll give trouble to the Tar Heels. North Carolina averages 39.7 PPG (No. 8), scoring at least 38 points in three of its last four wins. For reference, Virginia has been held to 17 or fewer points in four straight outings.

This is a game where you shouldn't overthink things. UNC is the clear-cut better team here and won't have any issues proving that on the road.

Final Score Prediction: North Carolina: 45 | Virginia: 17

Though it wasn't always this way, the last few North Carolina-Virginia games have seen a lot of points on the boards. The total has hit the over in four of the last five meetings between the ACC rivals. Furthermore, they've combined for an average of 84 points in their last three games, toppling 58.5 points in each contest.

UNC has found itself in high-scoring games this season, regardless of its opponents' skill level. Needless to say, I'm backing the over here.
