NFL Draft Best Available: Top Remaining Players Heading Into 2023 NFL Draft Day 2

The 2023 NFL Draft Round 1 was filled with surprises and trades (a lot of trades). The Texans not only took CJ Stroud at No. 2 overall after many projected they would select a defensive player, but they also traded for the No. 3 overall pick and selected Alabama defensive end Will Anderson -- a guy most thought they would take at No. 2.
Multiple teams traded up one spot to ensure they got their guy. The Cardinals initially traded back, then back up. Round 1 was a whirlwind and we could be headed toward more craziness on Friday night for Rounds 2 and 3.
There is still a ton of talent left on the board as Day 2 of the event prepares to kick off.
Heading into Rounds 2 and 3, here are the best remaining prospects after Day 1, per Mel Kiper's 2023 NFL Draft rankings.
Best Available NFL Draft Round 2
1. Will Levis, QB, Kentucky
Levis was the odd man out at quarterback on Day 1. The rumors around the Kentucky gunslinger even went as far as to predict him going No. 1 overall in the days before the draft. Levis has all the physical tools NFL teams could dream of, but there are certainly some question marks in his game. He is pretty much a lock to go somewhere in Round 2, especially with QB-needy teams like the Tennessee Titans and Atlanta Falcons in the top half of the round. Don't exclude teams like the Detroit Lions, Los Angeles Rams or even the Seattle Seahawks, who could all be looking for a new QB in the next couple of years as well. This would give Levis more time to learn and develop.
2. Michael Meyer, TE, Notre Dame
Meyer was surprisingly not the first tight end off the board in the draft. That distinction went to Utah product Dalton Kincaid when the Buffalo Bills selected him at No. 26. Meyer is a stud out of Notre Dame and projects to be a Day 1 contributor if given the opportunity, even with the lack of success from past rookie tight ends.
3. Joey Porter Jr., CB, Penn State
Four defensive backs went ahead of the Penn State standout in Round 1, where many projected Joey Porter Jr. to come off the board. Porter has tremendous size for his position and has the speed and athleticism to stay with bigger receivers on the outside in the NFL. Teams like the Pittsburgh Steelers, Arizona Cardinals, Lions and Rams -- all at the top of Round 2 -- could use a guy like Porter.
4. Brian Branch, S, Alabama
Some projected Branch to go as high as the late teens or early 20s. The history and pedigree around Alabama safeties is pretty damn good, and Branch should be no different as a key piece to a dominant Crimson Tide defense under Nick Saban. He can be a ballhawk, a do-it-all type safety for his team at the free safety position in the NFL or even play some nickel coverage.
5. Luke Musgrove, TE, Oregon State
6. Hendon Hooker, QB, Tennessee
Hooker is another intriguing prospect with all the physical tools and an impressive college resume, even more impressive than Levis'. But there are concerns about his abilities translating to the pro level, especially coming out of the Tennesse offense, which was not a pro-style offense. There projects to be a learning curve with Hooker coming into the NFL and he'll need some more time to develop. Not to mention, he's also coming off a torn ACL in his final collegiate season.
7. Steve Avila, OG, TCU
8. Keeanu Benton, DT, Wisconsin
9. Jonathan Mingo, WR, Ole Miss
10. Darnell Washington, TE, Georgia
11. Joe Tippmann, C, Wisconsin
12. Tyrique Stevenson, CB, Miami
13. O'Cyrus Torrence, OG, Florida
14. Sam LaPorta, TE, Iowa
15. Julius Brents, CB, Kansas State
16. Keion White, DE, Georgia Tech
17. BJ Ojulari, OLB, LSU
18. Jayden Reed, WR, Michigan State
19. John Michael Schmitz, C, Minnesota
20. Jalin Hyatt, WR, Tennessee
21. Kelee Ringo, CB, Georgia
22. Adetomiwa Adebawore, DE, Northwestern
23. Matthew Bergeron, OT, Syracuse
24. Cody Mauch, OT, North Dakota State
25. Trenton Simpson, ILB, Clemson
26. DJ Turner, CB, Michigan
27. Dawand Jones OT, Ohio State
28. Cedric Tillman, WR, Tennessee
29. Marvin Mimms, WR, Oklahoma
30. Tucker Kraft, TE, South Dakota State
31. Riley Moss, CB, Iowa
32. Josh Downs, WR, North Carolina
