The New York Rangers are back in the NHL Playoffs after a successful 2022-23 season. It's been over 30 years since the Rangers last won the Stanley Cup and if they want to end that drought, they must first get through their opening-round series against the New Jersey Devils.

Here's everything you need to know about the Rangers' first round series.

What Seed Are the Rangers in the 2023 NHL Playoffs?

The Rangers finished the 2022-23 NHL regular season with a 47-22-13 record, which earned them the No. 3 spot in the Metropolitan Division. Artemi Panarin and Mika Zibanjed led the charge with 92 and 91 points, respectively, while Patrick Kane had 12 points in 19 games since arriving from the Chicago Blackhawks.

The Rangers' last playoff appearance saw them eliminated by the Tampa Bay Lightning in six games in last year's Eastern Conference Finals.

Who Are the Rangers Playing in the 2023 Playoffs?

As the Metropolitan Division's No. 3 team, the Rangers will play the Devils -- who posted the second-best record in the division -- in the first round of the NHL Playoffs. This will be a typical best-of-seven series that follows the 2-2-1-1-1 format. That means the better seed (New Jersey) will host Games 1 and 2, plus Games 5 and 7 if those are necessary. The worse seed (New York) hosts Games 3 and 4, plus Game 6 if that is necessary.

Looking ahead, if the Rangers win this series and advance, they would face either the 1-seed Carolina Hurricanes or the New York Islanders (first-place wild card team) in the Eastern Conference semifinals.
