The Devils' last playoff appearance saw them eliminated by the Tampa Bay Lightning in five games in the first round of the 2017-18 playoffs.

Who Are the Devils Playing in the 2023 Playoffs?

As the Metropolitan Division's No. 2 team, the Devils will play the Rangers -- who posted the third-best record in the division -- in the first round of the NHL Playoffs. This will be a typical best-of-seven series that follows the 2-2-1-1-1 format. That means the better seed (New Jersey) will host Games 1 and 2, plus Games 5 and 7 if those are necessary. The worse seed (New York) hosts Games 3 and 4, plus Game 6 if that is necessary.

Looking ahead, if the Devils win this series and advance, they would face either the 1-seed Carolina Hurricanes or the New York Islanders (first-place wild card team) in the Eastern Conference semifinals.
