3 Most Likely Lamar Jackson Free Agent Destinations in 2023

3 Most Likely Lamar Jackson Free Agent Destinations in 2023

Updated:

All eyes will be one Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson this offseason. He and Baltimore have been unable to agree on a long-term contract so far, which could open up the opportunity for Jackson to explore other options. The chances of the Ravens letting Jackson even dip a toe in the free-agent waters are slim to none, but the uncertainty around this situation means anything could happen.

With that in mind, here are three likely destinations for Jackson this offseason if he did become a free agent.

Lamar Jackson Free-Agent Landing Spots 2023

3. Atlanta Falcons

The Atlanta Falcons could be a potential darkhorse if Jackson hit the open market. Arthur Smith led this slept-on team to seven wins in 2022 behind a run-heavy offense that would clearly align with Jackson's dual-threat strengths. Atlanta has an intriguing young core of Kyle Pitts, Drake London and Tyler Allgeier that could take a massive step forward in 2023 with Jackson under center. GM Terry Fontenot has shown he's not afraid to make big moves in his two years at the helm, and he's got money to burn with the Falcons projected to have the second-most cap space this offseason, per Spotrac. The former league MVP is the exact type of player you throw millions at if he becomes available.

2. Seattle Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks are on the search for a new franchise QB after parting ways with Russell Wilson last offseason. Though Geno Smith was impressive in 2022, Jackson is the exact kind of upgrade that would make this team a legit contender. The dual threat helming an offense that already features a top wide receiver duo in D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett, plus a future star in rookie running back Kenneth Walker, is a tantalizing thought. Seattle also has top-10 cap space to work with this summer, so it could certainly afford Jackson's services. The Seahawks boast valuable draft capital in their back pocket as well, which would give them the ammo they need to jump-start their rebuild and turn into full-fledged championship hopeful overnight with a few splashy trades.

1. Baltimore Ravens

While it's fun to entertain the thought of Jackson hitting the open market, it's just unlikely to happen. Baltimore has a few routes it can take to make sure other teams don't even think they have a chance at throwing a massive offer at Jackson this offseason. Even if the Ravens can't hammer out a long-term extension, they can simply franchise tag Jackson to lock him down for 2023 and afford them more time to negotiate. A trade of the 2019 MVP would be the most likely way he ends up in a different uniform in 2023, as Baltimore wouldn't want to lose a player of his talent for nothing if talks do break down.
