3 Most Likely JuJu Smith-Schuster Free Agent Destinations

Updated:

The NFL's free agency period is right around the corner, beginning at 4 p.m. ET on March 15. Fans can expect several well-known wide receivers to hit the open market this year, including the always-exiting JuJu Smith-Schuster, who is coming off a Super Bowl run with the Kansas City Chiefs.

With the Chiefs, Smith-Schuster enjoyed his best performance since his sophomore year, finishing with 933 receiving yards and three touchdowns on 78 catches over 16 games (14 starts). That more than likely earned him a solid number of suitors next month.

In the meantime, here's a look at Smith-Schuster's three most likely free-agent destinations.

JuJu Smith-Schuster Free Agency

1. Kansas City Chiefs

Even though Smith-Schuster will likely see a fair bit of outside attention, it won't be surprising if he's back with the Chiefs this fall. He's clearly a good fit in Kansas City, having more chemistry with Patrick Mahomes than any pass-catcher not named Travis Kelce last season. The fact that Smith-Schuster nearly hit the 1,000-yard mark in his first season with the Chiefs proves that he still has a lot left in the tank and another summer with the organization will only improve his chances of an even better performance in 2023. If the Chiefs want to repeat as Super Bowl winners, finding a way to bring back Smith-Schuster is a no-brainer.

2. Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears were thrilled with quarterback Justin Fields' development last season, they must surround him with more talented wideouts. Darnell Mooney and Chase Claypool are both solid, but they're the only wideouts currently under contract. Adding Smith-Schuster to the mix would give the WR room a much-needed boost. A proven veteran like Smith-Schuster could help get the best out of Fields and he would also be reunited with ex-Pittsburgh Steelers teammate Claypool. The duo nearly combined for 1,700 yards the last time they were healthy and on the same team, which is exactly the type of production Fields needs from his weapons to improve even more.

3. Los Angeles Chargers

Recent reports indicate veteran WR Keenan Allen could be a cap casualty this offseason. After all, the Los Angeles Chargers — who are around $19.6 million over the salary cap (Spotrac) — can save $14.8 million by cutting him. If that does happen, the Chargers could use someone like Smith-Schuster to replace him. The 26-year-old would look nice opposite to speedster Mike Williams and having Justin Herbert as his QB wouldn't hurt either. Joining the Chargers would also bring Smith-Schuster back to his home state of California, where he was born in Long Beach before playing college football for the USC Trojans. Now that he has a championship ring, perhaps playing closer to home is next on his career bucket list.
