MLB Announces Umpire Assignments For Padres-Phillies NLCS

Updated:

After a couple of thrilling opening rounds, the stage is set for the National League Championship Series (NLCS). With a trip to the 2022 World Series on the line, the Philadelphia Phillies and San Diego Padres will battle out a fierce best-of-7 series beginning on Tuesday night.

Probable pitchers and starting lineups are beginning to roll out. In addition, MLB revealed the official umpiring crews for this Phillies-Padres matchup.

NLCS Umpires

Padres insider Jeff Sanders tweeted out a graphic of the umpires assigned to this series. It's a six-man crew, as is customary in MLB postseason matchups, with umpires situated down the foul lines in both left and right field. The following is a list of Game 1 posts.

HP: Brian Knight
1B: Ted Barrett (Crew Chief)
2B: Adam Hamari
3B: Quinn Wolcott
LF: Doug Eddings
RF: Todd Tichenor
Reserve: Lance Barrett

The graphic also indicates which umpires will be behind home plate during the series.

Home Plate:
Game 1: Brian Knight
Game 2: Lance Barrett
Game 3: Ted Barrett
Game 4: Adam Hamari
Game 5: Quinn Wolcott
Game 6: Doug Eddings
Game 7: Todd Tichenor

Game 1 kicks off with a solid option behind the plate, according to Umpire Scorecards' grading system. Brian Knight rates in the 86th percentile of all recorded umpires (in terms of accuracy). He is, however, just the 46th percentile of consistency.

Game 2 paints a different picture. Lance Barrett is in just the 18th percentile of accuracy, but 89th percentile in consistency. Players may not agree with the strike zone he lays out, but at least it'll be consistent. Game 3's Ted Barrett is just in the 12th percentile of accuracy but Game 4's Adam Hamari rates in the 96th percentile.

It'll be interesting to see if any of these umpires are forced to make a dramatic call.
