Mike Gesicki Fantasy Football Outlook 2022 (Expect More of the Same From Dolphins No. 1 TE)

Mike Gesicki Fantasy Football Outlook 2022 (Expect More of the Same From Dolphins No. 1 TE)

Updated:

Miami Dolphins tight end Mike Gesicki rose to fantasy prominence beginning as a sophomore in 2019 when he finished as the TE12 in PPR formats. Since then, he's since tied as the TE8 in each of the last two campaigns, leaving managers hungry for more of his consistency this fall.

Gesicki has established himself as one of quarterback Tua Tagovailoa's favorite targets and that shouldn't change in 2022. However, with some improvements made to the passing game, can the 26-year-old veteran take his game to the next level?

Mike Gesicki Fantasy Football Outlook

Gesicki suited up in all 17 Dolphins games last year, leading to his setting career-highs in targets (112), receptions (73) and receiving yards (780). He only found the end zone twice all year, but still managed to average 9.7 PPR points per game.

Having said that, Gesicki must work better at being more consistent. He only recorded double-digit point totals six times. In fact, he only averaged 7.4 fantasy points from Week 12 until the end of the season, ranking as the TE17 over that stretch.

Nevertheless, the Dolphins' passing attack appears to be ready for the next step. Tagovailoa and sophomore wideout Jaylen Waddle have shown improvements this offseason, while the likes of wideouts Tyreek Hill and Cedrick Wilson Jr., along with Pro-Bowl offensive tackle Terron Armstead, should make life easier for Gesicki.

Will Gesicki lose some targets to newcomers like Hill and Wilson? Potentially, but the improved passing attack will help Miami move downfield easier, likely giving the veteran TE more red-zone looks in the process. All in all, it should be another top-10 year for Gesicki. He ranked behind only Waddle in red zone targets a year ago, and that chemistry matters, especially early on.

Mike Gesicki Projections

For now, FanDuel Sportsbook doesn't have any available Gesicki-related player prop markets for the 2022 NFL season. Check the odds lists over the coming weeks for any potential updates.

Is Mike Gesicki a Good Fantasy Football Pick?

Despite last year's consistencies and some added competition for targets, Gesicki is still in line for a TE1 spot on your fantasy roster. He't not going to creep into that elite tier, but his chemistry with Tagovailoa can't be overlooked and even if 100-plus targets aren't there.

As far as The Duel's PPR player rankings are considered, Gesicki finds himself as the TE10 ahead of the 2022 campaign. He's also listed as having an average draft position of 114.8 on Fantasy Pros, meaning he's likely to be selected somewhere around Rounds 9 and 10 in 12-team leagues.
