Marvin Mims Scouting Report

Mims wasted no time carving out a role in Oklahoma's offense as a freshman, logging 610 yards and 9 touchdowns on 37 receptions in 11 games played. He replicated that success with 705 yards and 5 touchdowns on 32 receptions in 13 games in 2021, averaging 22.0 yards per catch (No. 4 in FBS).

The Texas native took things to another level in 2022, racking up 1,083 yards and 6 touchdowns on 57 receptions (20.1-yard average). Mims was named a first-team All-Big 12 player as a result. He shined bright as a returner, too, averaging 23.3 yards per kick return and 11.8 yards per punt return.

Highlighted strengths of Mims' game revolve around what he can do with the ball in his hands. He is dynamic when it comes to his field vision and overall elusiveness after making a catch. The Oklahoma standout also excels at tracking the ball through the air and into his hands on deep passing plays.

Mims is not a prospect without flaws, though, as his smaller frame leaves him vunerable against physical defenders. Playing through contact will be something he will need to improve upon to adjust to an NFL style of play. Nevertheless, Mims has the makings of an exciting and versatile weapon.

Marvin Mims NFL Draft Prediction

Mims succeeded when it came to blocking in the running game and thrived as a kick/punt returner in college, meaning he can make an impact in a variety of ways in the NFL. That is going to make him an intriguing target for an offense in need of a wide receiver capable of changing the game in an instant.

The Eagles have two guys that can do that in AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith, but they lack a slot option that can give defenses nightmares on short/intermediate routes. Mims has the kind of explosiveness needed to take advantage of the free releases slot receivers tend to get in high-powered offenses.

Philadelphia has the necessary draft capital to add Mims to the squad in some way or another, too. This is a loaded wide receiver draft class and the Sooners star is falling through the cracks a bit. Most projections have Mims landing toward the bottom of the second or toward the top of the third round.

Prediction: Philadelphia Eagles (Round 2, 62nd overall)
