Man 'o War Pick
The top win contenders, according to Horse Racing Nation's Super Screener are:
- Warren Point (9/5) - Most reliable board hitter
- Howe Street (8/1) - Top value
- Verstappen (6/1)
This is a pretty wide open marathon affair to be contested 11 furlongs over the Belmont Park Inner Turf course which, historically, has been quite kind to closers. Warren Point is a lightly raced 4-yr-old gelding who has never missed the Trifecta in 8 lifetime starts including 7 Exacta finishes (1st or 2nd).
Warren Point is a mid-pack runner with a strong turn foot so he’ll inherit a perfect stalking trip and will get first jump on the deeper closers. He's the horse to beat, but Howe Street can track a more moderate pace than his Grade 2 finish (6th) a month ago when it was too fast, but allowed Verstappen to rally and win at 16/1 odds a neck in front of off-the-pace runner Red Knight going 1 1/2 miles.
