Linette vs Sabalenka Australian Open Schedule & Info

2023 Australian Open Women's Semifinals Match
Magda Linette vs. No. 5 Aryna Sabalenka
Date: Thursday, Jan. 25, 2023
Start Time: 5:00 a.m. ET
Venue: Rod Laver Arena — Melbourne, Australia

A spot in the finals is on the line as Magda Linette and No. 5 Aryna Sabalenka face off in 2023 Australian Open action. Linette earned an upset win in straight sets over Karolina Pliskova in the quarterfinals to secure just her second career semifinals appearance at a Grand Slam tournament.

Meanwhile, Sabalenka took care of business in a two-set victory over Donna Vekic and is making her fourth semifinals appearance at a Grand Slam tournament. Keep in mind neither one of these tennis stars have ever won a Grand Slam tourney title. Which woman will get one step closer to that goal?

Linette vs Sabalenka Prediction & Pick

Linette overcame the odds again in the quarterfinals and took down an opponent ranked among the top 30 for the fourth time in this tournament. The 30-year-old has showcased impressive footwork and insane court coverage during her run, but still enters the semifinals as a considerable underdog.

That's because Sabalenka has looked unstoppable during the 2023 Australian Open. She has won all 10 of her sets in the first five rounds and her opponents have only won more than three games in two of those 10 sets. It only goes to show just how dominant the 24-year-old out of Belarus has been.

This one is closer than the odds make it seem, but give me Sabalenka as she owns a 2-0 career record against Linette.

Winner: Aryna Sabalenka

Linette vs Sabalenka Best Bet

Determining an edge in this matchup is not easy. Sabalenka has proven she is the woman to beat in this tournament, but Linette has shown she should not be underestimated. I'm going to avoid any moneyline bets for that reason. I find myself leaning toward backing Sabalenka in the first set.

Linette has already dropped one of her five first sets in this tournament and had two other close calls with scores of 7-6 as well as 7-5. On the other side, Sabalenka has won each of her first five sets and only one of those wins came by a margin of less than three games. Trust Sabalenka to start off hot.

Bet: Aryna Sabalenka 1st Set -2.5 Games (+115)
