The 2022 NFL season has entered Week 13, which means we're nearly done with bye weeks. There are still several teams that won't be in action this weekend, however, removing plenty of important players from fantasy football lineups.
Here's everything fantasy managers need to know about upcoming byes in Week 13.
What Does Bye Mean in Fantasy Football?
A bye in football is when a team doesn't have a game scheduled for that week. This off time is crucial for squads given the long grind that is an NFL season. Having a week away from practice and game prep gives players time to rest or heal from any injuries they're dealing with. It also allows coaches to take stock of their rosters and consider implementing any changes for the following game.
Since players on byes don't have a game that week, they need to be removed from fantasy football starting lineups and placed on the bench. This has to be manually done, though. Otherwise those inactive players will stay in lineups and post zero points for teams given they're not participating in any matchup.
What NFL Teams Have a Bye This Week?
In Week 13 of the 2022 season, only two teams will be on byes. They are the Arizona Cardinals and Carolina Panthers.
That means important fantasy football players like Kyler Murray, James Conner, DeAndre Hopkins, D'Onta Foreman, D.J. Moore and others will all be unavailable. Managers need to place these players on their benches to avoid getting zeroes from inactive players.
Fantasy Bye Week Strategy
Given the amount of fantasy-relevant players off in Week 13, managers may find themselves scrambling for replacements, There's still plenty of time to figure out your lineups, though.
The waiver wire is the prime destination to go for bye-week fillers. Running backs rostered in fewer than 50% of Yahoo! fantasy leagues right now include Kyren Williams (49%), Kenyan Drake (48%), Cam Akers (47%), Tyler Allgeier (46%) and Zonovan Knight (40%). For anyone needing to fill a hole at RB, these players should be top targets.
Wide receiver options in Week 13 include Zay Jones (49%), Marquez Valdes-Scantling (45%), Van Jefferson (27%) and Mack Hollins (27%). For tight end, streaming options are available, including the likes of Foster Moreau (49%), Juwan Johnson (42%) and Robert Tonyan (35%). The same applies to quarterbacks, including Jared Goff (49%), Marcus Mariota (36%) and Ryan Tannehill (17%).
Managers shouldn't just rely on picking up fill-in players for that week, though. It's important to know your key players' schedules and plan ahead if they have upcoming byes. That way you can add players now that won't be as in demand if you need them for Week 14 or beyond. This is how smart managers get a leg up on their league-mates.
