2022 NFL Preseason Game
Detroit Lions (1-1) vs. Pittsburgh Steelers (2-0)
Date: Sunday, August 28, 2022
Time: 4:30 p.m. ET
Venue: Acrisure Stadium — Pittsburgh, PA

The Detroit Lions will take on the undefeated Pittsburgh Steelers in Steel City this weekend. The Steelers have benefited from a relatively easy preseason schedule, taking down the Seattle Seahawks in Week 1 and the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 2.

The Lions' preseason games, on the other hand, have been a mixed bag. Detroit lost to the lowly Atlanta Falcons at home in Week 1, only to bounce back with a 27-26 road win over the Indianapolis Colts in Week 2.

Moneyline: DET: (+175) | PIT: (-210)
Spread: DET: +4.5 (-110) | PIT: -4.5 (-110)
Total: 38.5 — Over: (-110) | Under: (-110)

The Steelers are favored at home against the visiting Lions with both teams coming off nailbiting Week 2 victories. This game's total of 38.5 is similar to other totals on the Week 3 slate.

Lions vs Steelers Prediction & Pick

The Lions narrowly escaped with a win in Indianapolis last week after losing by four points in Week 1, so both of their games have been close. That's been a recurring theme for them under Dan Campbell, who's helped his players stay competitive even in games where they ultimately fall short.

The Steelers are also coming off a one-point road win last week, although they beat the Seahawks by a touchdown in Week 1. Pittsburgh has traditionally played tough for Mike Tomlin, who's far more accomplished than Campbell and has an impressive 36-24 career record in the preseason.

While the Lions will be playing most of their starters in Week 3, Campbell has already said that starting quarterback Jared Goff will not play. That puts Detroit at a disadvantage here, especially considering how well Kenny Pickett played last week.

Final Score Prediction: Lions: 17 | Steelers: 21

Lions vs Steelers Betting Trends

- Pittsburgh is 4-1 against the spread (ATS) in its last five games.

- Pittsburgh is 7-0-1 straight up in its last eight home games.
- Detroit is 4-15-1 straight up in its last 20 games.

Lions vs Steelers Best Bet

The Lions play hard for Campbell and have performed above their talent level since he took over last year, even if they have a penchant for coming up short at the end of games.

Detroit has covered this spread in both of its preseason games thus far and should be able to keep this game close, even without Goff. The Lions have shown a lot of growth over the past calendar year and are trending up as a franchise, and it wouldn't be surprising to see them sneak away with a win against a Steelers team that's in flux following Ben Roethlisberger's retirement.

Bet: Detroit Lions +4.5 (-110)
