Likely Dansby Swanson Free Agency Price Tag Revealed

Updated:

It's been less than a week since the World Series ended and teams around baseball already have their eyes on free agency. That includes the Atlanta Braves, who are likely desperate to lock up shortstop Dansby Swanson for the long run.

Swanson officially became a free agent on Sunday, and now MLB insider Kiley McDaniel has revealed the expected price tag on his next contract.

Dansby Swanson Contract

McDaniel believes Swanson will receive a contract in the neighborhood of six years and $150 million range, or $25 million in average annual value (AAV).

Swanson is not only an elite defender at the sport's most important position, but his offense has also completely transformed over the years. He's gone from a glove-first player to one of the better-hitting shortstops in baseball and is coming off back-to-back seasons with at least 25 home runs.

McDaniel's projection stems from discussions with several baseball executives, who believe Swanson could surpass Marcus Semien's seven-year, $175 million contract with the Texas Rangers, which Semien signed last offseason.
