Likely Carlos Rodon Free Agency Price Tag Revealed

Likely Carlos Rodon Free Agency Price Tag Revealed

Updated:

It's been less than a week since the World Series ended and teams around baseball already have their eyes on free agency. That includes the San Francisco Giants, who are likely desperate to lock up ace Carlos Rodon to an extended deal.

Rodon officially became a free agent by opting out of his current deal this week, and now MLB insider Kiley McDaniel has revealed the expected price tag on his next contract.

McDaniel projects Rodon to receive a contract worth five years and $130 million, or $26 million in average annual value (AAV). That's a bump from his current $22 million AAV.

Rodon turned into a bonafide ace during the 2021 season and hasn't looked back. He's registered back-to-back All-Star appearances in addition to a league-best 12.0 strikeouts per nine innings. Rodon owned a stellar 2.88 ERA across 31 starts.

McDaniel believes Rodon will out-do Kevin Gausman's 2021 deal worth $110 million, but considers the pitchers of similar makeup ("high picks out of college who took awhile to reach expectations but became frontline types.")
