Kodai Senga Had Hilarious First Impression of Buck Showalter

When traveling to a different country, it's easy for things to get lost in translation. That holds true for baseball players, too, who often find themselves immersed in different cultures where their only common language is the game.

Thankfully, not everything requires a translation. Something that doesn't is a person's face, which Japanese pitcher Kodai Senga learned upon joining the New York Mets.

According to Senga, he thought his new manager, Buck Showalter, had an "intimidating face" before meeting him in person.

In Senga's defense, Showalter can be intense and scary-looking at times. The 66-year-old skipper often appears stern and serious, not unlike New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick.

Fortunately, Senga no longer feels that way after getting to know Showalter. Showalter is actually quite funny and personable, which explains why he's won Manager of the Year four times in his career.

Senga and Showalter expect to do a lot of winning together this year. New York is currently tied for the fourth-best World Series odds (+1000) on FanDuel Sportsbook's MLB odds.
