Kobe Bryant Career Stats at Madison Square Garden Further Underline Incredible 20-Year NBA Career

Updated:

NBA legend and 18-time All-Star Kobe Bryant tragically passed away in a helicopter crash at just 41 years old this past Sunday in Calabasas, California, but his legacy on the court will live forever, especially in one of basketball's greatest forums: Madison Square Garden.

New York City's grand stage and home of the New York Knicks has been known to bring out the best in the biggest stars to take the floor there, and Bryant certainly fit that bill during his historic NBA career.

Kobe Bryant Career Stats at MSG

Bryant faced off against the Knicks at MSG just 16 total times in his incredible 20-year NBA career, but he made the most of those opportunities. Averaging a little more than 36.3 minutes per game (MPG) of action, Bryant averaged 29.9 points (PPG), 5.9 rebounds (RPG) and 3.9 assists (APG) per game on 42.9 percent shooting from the floor and 44.5 percent from beyond the arc.

For some added perspective compared to his career numbers, those numbers put Bryant above his career average stats in scoring (25.0 PPG) and 3-point shooting percentage (33.9 percent) in his appearances under the lights at MSG. Bryant also scored 20 points or more in 13 of his 16 appearances at Madison Square Garden.

Kobe Bryant Record at MSG

Despite ending his career on a three-game slide to the Knicks, Bryant posted a 10-6 record in his 16 games taking the floor at Madison Square Garden.

As part of a tribute to Bryant and the impact he had on both the NBA and a hallowed ground for basketball like MSG, the Empire State Building and Madison Square Garden were illuminated in purple and gold lighting the night of Jan. 26, 2020, following the news of his tragic death.
