  • Date: Monday, January 16, 2023
  • Time: 3:00 p.m. ET
  • Venue: Madison Square Garden -- New York City, New York
  • Coverage: MSG and TSN

The New York Knicks (25-19) are set to host the Toronto Raptors (19-24) for some afternoon action at Madison Square Garden on Monday, Jan. 16.

The Knicks have hit their stride lately, improving to 7-1 over their last eight games with Sunday's 117-104 victory over the Detroit Pistons. On the other hand, the Raptors look to rebound after a 114-103 loss to the Atlanta Hawks ended their winning streak at three games.

Can the Knicks beat Toronto for the second time this month? Or will the Raptors pick up a rare road victory this afternoon?

Knicks vs. Raptors Betting Trends

  • The Knicks are 23-18-1 against the spread this season.
  • So far this year, the Raptors have been installed as underdogs by a 3-point margin or more six times and are 4-1-1 ATS in those matchups.
  • This season, 21 of the Knicks' games have gone over the point total out of 40 chances.
  • Raptors games this year have gone over the total in 21 of 40 opportunities (52.5%).
  • New York has covered the spread in a lower percentage of its home games than away games. It has covered eight times in 21 games when playing at home, and it has covered 15 times in 21 games when playing on the road.
  • Toronto has performed better against the spread at home (11-11-1) than away (6-10-1) this season.

Knicks vs. Raptors Prediction & Pick

The Raptors have been playing better basketball lately, but that doesn't erase their road struggles. Toronto has dropped seven of its last nine away outings, averaging an underwhelming 109.9 PPG while operating at a minus-4.2 scoring margin over that stretch.

The Raptors' offense will likely have a tough time against the Knicks, who've kept opponents to 108 points or fewer in five of the last eight games. That includes when New York silenced Toronto's attack in a 112-108 win on Jan. 6, where the Knicks held the Raptors to .422/.345/.800 shooting splits.

There's also the fact that Raptors guard Fred VanVleet is questionable for today's game with a back injury. Considering how Toronto is just 2-4 in its last six games without VanVleet this season, I'm even more confident that the Knicks will win today.

Final Score Prediction: Knicks: 116 | Raptors: 110

Knicks vs. Raptors Best Bet

With the total sitting at 218 points, I'm looking at the over as the best bet. The over is 6-2 in the Raptors' last eight games against the Eastern Conference as well as in the Knicks' last eight home games.

Furthermore, the over has hit in five of the last seven New York-Toronto matchups, going above 218 points in three of the last four clashes. After already surpassing the over in both of their matchups thus far this season, they shouldn't have too much trouble doing it again.

Bet: Over 218 Points (-110)
