Kirk Cousins' Stance on Taking a Pay Cut for 2022 Season Revealed

Updated:

Kirk Cousins' future with the Minnesota Vikings will be a hot topic this offseason. The Vikings quarterback is scheduled to carry a $45 million cap hit in 2022, the final year of his current deal, but two straight seasons missing the playoffs has some wondering if he's worth the price.

A pay cut would be an option, but it doesn't sound like Cousins is open to that.

The veteran has "zero intention" of taking a pay cut, per insider Jordan Schultz. No one can certainly blame Cousins since the team agreed to this deal in the first place. He's also produced, throwing for at least 4,200 yards and 33 TDs in each of the past two years.

Still, Cousins not being willing to sacrifice has certainly been a theme during his career. His leadership has left much to be desired as the Vikings have finished below .500 in each of the past two seasons.

New GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah will have to take a long look at this team's future and ponder how Cousins fits into the picture long term. There are other intriguing options that could hit the trade market this offseason and raise this team's ceiling if the team decides to part ways with its current starter.
