One sneaky Kentucky Derby contender everyone has their eyes on ahead of this race is Kingsbarns, who enters with a ton of positive momentum. Here's everything you need to know about this Todd Pletcher-trained colt before he vies for the 2023 Kentucky Debry crown.

Kingsbarns Kentucky Derby Odds and Post Position

Kingsbarns currently owns 12-1 odds to win the Kentucky Derby after the post positions were announced on Monday. It's a good landing spot for the son of Uncle Mo, who can get a good break and press the pace up front. Kingsbarns drew the #6 post position.

Kingsbarns Horse Trainer and Jockey

Kingsbarns is trained by Todd Pletcher, who has won the Kentucky Derby twice and most recently with front-runner Always Dreaming (2017). The eight-time Eclipse Award-winning trainer has the best hand in the Derby with three top win contenders in Kingsbarns, Forte and Tapit Trice.

Todd Pletcher just recently announced that top jockey Jose Ortiz will ride Kingsbarns for the first time in the 2023 Kentucky Derby. The accomplished 29-year-old Puerto Rican racer is looking to finally break through in this event after going 0-7 over his previous starts in the Derby. However, Ortiz has finished sixth or better five times including with big longshot Simplication (4th) in last year's Kentucky Derby. Jose Ortiz' best results was when he finished second with Good Magic (2018) and third with Tacitus (2019). Ortiz also rode Pletcher-trained Tapwrit to a Triple Crown race win in the 2017 Belmont Stakes.

Kingsbarns Race History

Kingsbarns is 3-for-3 with a career record of three starts and three wins following his recent 3 1/2 length win in the Louisiana Derby. All three of his wins have come this year as a 3-year-old. For a lightly raced type he brings the balance to this race that we haven’t seen from prior runners that came to this race off just three starts but failed to impact.

Kingsbarns Kentucky Derby Prediction and Pick

Kingsbarns is the only horse in the field that is undefeated. The lightly-raced colt did not race as a 2-year-old, so there are questions about his foundation. But he went gate-to-wire in front to win the Louisiana Derby in his stakes debut ahead of Kentucky Derby runners Disarm, Jace's Road and fifth-place finisher Sun Thunder.

Kingsbarns speed figure in the Louisiana Derby should be much higher thanks to the super slow pace he carved out in that race. He's bred for the Derby distance of 1 1/4 miles or longer, and Kingsbarns will be pressing the pace and be a factor as they hit mid stretch.

Bettors looking for an underrated horse to back and inclue in Win-Place-Show betting along with Exacta, Trifecta and Superfecta wagers should look no further than Kingsbarns.
