Keeneland Horse Racing Picks for Wednesday 4/12/23
By FairwayJay

Week 2 of the Keeneland Spring Meet begins with 8 races on Wednesday with post time at 1 p.m. ET. Saturday's $1 million Blue Grass Stakes was won by Tapit Trice, and he'll be running as one of the favorites in the May 6 Kentucky Derby.
As always, check the program for scratches and changes, monitor the weather and keep an eye on the track conditions.
(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races after adjusting for track, distances, and conditions).
Keeneland Betting Picks
According to numberFire horse racing projections and Top Race Reports, these are some of the best bets to make at FanDuel Racing today.
1. Heartbreaker and Color Field, Race 4
FanDuel Racing Odds: 5/2 and 8/1

Race 4 is a Claiming race for 3-year-olds and up sprinting 6 furlongs. A 10 horse field, and Top Race Reports notes in his East Coast Handicapping Report that Heartbreaker (5/2) is a lightly raced 5-year-old sired by Jimmy Creed. He's only raced 5 times, and is clearly well-meant with noted EPO West Coast trainer Phil D'Amato sending him to Keeneland believing he has a good chance to cash in.
The numberFire data projects Don't Wait Up (7/2) and Heartbreaker to decide the winner of the race. Don't Wait Up is 1-for-6 and hasn't raced since last summer. Leading jockey Irad Ortiz rides the son of Upstart.
2. Spin Wheel and F Five, Race 5
FanDuel Racing Odds: 20/1 and 15/1

Race 5 is an Allowance race for older horses at 1 1/8 miles on the turf. This is not a good group at this level, despite a full field of 12 horses to choose from. Not much interest in any of the favorites like numberFire's top pick Dripping Gold (5/2), or Jarreau (3/1) with top jockey Irad Ortiz, Jr. riding for EPO trainer Mike Maker.
So look towards Top Race Reports longshots Spin Wheel (20/1) breaking from the rail and F Five (15/1) next to him. Spin Wheel has raced in graded stakes races, and been off since last June. He shows up here at a long distance with trainer confident he's ready to fire off the layoff with some solid morning works in place.
3. Blissful and Sister Lou Ann, Race 7
FanDuel Racing Odds: 9/2 and 8/1
Bet Now at TVG | Bet Now at FanDuel
Race 7 is an Allowance race for older fillies and mares at 1 1/16 mile on the turf. Top Race Reports suggested win wagers on Blissful (9/2) and Sister Lou Ann (8/1), who is ridden by Irad Ortiz, Jr. for EPO trainer Saffie Joseph, Jr.
Blissful is ridden by Luis Saez. He's stringing races together, now showing good health off a win at Fair Grounds.
Trying to beat the even money favorite Flirting Bridge (1-1), who is the numberFire pick to win just ahead of Sister Lou Ann.
