Keeneland Horse Racing Picks and Top Stakes for Saturday 4/15/23

The three-week Keeneland Spring Meet continues with 11 races on Saturday with three stakes, including $600,000 Grade 1 Jenny Wiley Stakes and Kentucky Derby prep $400,000 Grade 3 Stonestreet Lexington Stakes. Post time Saturday is 1:00 p.m. ET.

1. Oeuvre and Little Jewel, Race 6

Race 8 is the $250,000 Giant's Causeway Stakes for fillies and mares sprinting 5 1/2 furlongs on the turf. The top win contenders according to HRN Super Screener are Little Jewel (8/1), Oeuvre (9/2) and Happy Soul (4/1) in the most wide-open stakes race on the card.

Little Jewel is top value and owns the best Super Screener Energy Reserve Index in this field. Oeuvre is 4-for-4 at the distance and has won 10-of-16 career starts. The king of the turf sprint stakes, trainer Wesley Ward, sends Happy Soul into this heat trying turf for just the second time after finishing second on the grass last Oct.

2. Empirestrikesfast and Disarm, Race 9

Race 9 is the $400,000 Grade 3 Stonestreet Lexington Stakes for 3-year-olds at 1 1/16 miles. This is the final Kentucky Derby prep/points race (20-8-6-4-2). The top win contenders according to HRN Super Screener are Empirestrikesfast (4/1) and Disarm (7/2). Only Disarm in the 11-horse field can earn enough points to get into the 20-horse Kentucky Derby field (1st, 2nd or 3rd place finish).

The numberFire data picks Disarm ahead of Arabian Lion (7/2).

3. In Italian and With The Moonlight, Race 10

Race 10 is the $600,000 Grade 1 Jenny Wiley Stakes for older fillies and mares at 1 1/16 miles on the turf. The numberFire projection and Horse Racing Nation make the favorite In Italian (7/5) a top win contender.

Trainer Chad Brown has won four of the last five editions of this race and has a good chance to win another with top jockey Irad Ortiz, Jr. riding In Italian. She won a Grade 1 race over this turf course in Oct. and then finished a close second in the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf at Keeneland with a career-best 120 speed figure.

With The Moonlight (5/2) will try to chase down the top pick after finishing first or second in 8 of 11 starts. Queen Goddess (4/1) won the Pegasus Filly & Mare Turf in January. She's won 6-of-11 starts and can hit the board with top jockey Luis Saez riding.
