Keeneland Horse Racing Picks for Saturday 10/8/22

Updated:

Starting at 1:00 p.m. ET, we have 11 races Saturday at Keeneland including 5 graded stakes.

As always, check the program for scratches and changes, and monitor the weather and track conditions.

(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions).

Race 8 is the $750,000 First Lady Stakes (G1) for fillies and mares going 1-mile on the turf. Trainer Chad Brown has half the field and the three favorites. And the numberFire data projects them to finish 1-2-3 - Regal Glory (6/5), Technical Analysis (5/2) and In Italian (3/1).

Regal Glory is a 6-year-old who comes from off the pace. She beat the boys last race, and is 3 for 4 in the Exacta on this turf course and 11 for 13 at this distance.

2. Lost Ark and Forte, Race 9

FanDuel Racing Odds: 6/1 and 3/1

Race 9 is the $600,000 Claiborne Breeders Futurity (G1) for 2-year-olds at 1 1/16 miles. This is a Breeders’ Cup Juvenile “Win and You’re In” race with a full field of 14 runners. The numberFire algorithm projects Forte (3/1) to win ahead of Frosted Departure (10/1) and Lost Ark (6/1).

The Horse Racing Nation (HRN) Super Screener has top win potential on Lost Ark, Loggins (4/1) and Forte.

Lost Ark crushed his rivals in his debut, and is a top value pick. He's trained by Todd Pletcher, along with stablemate Forte with top jockeys Flavien Prate and Irad Ortiz, Jr. riding those two runners.

3. Annapolis and Ivar, Race 10

FanDuel Racing Odds: 10/1 and 6/1

Race 10 is the $1 million Coolmore Turf Mile (G1) and has high payoff potential. Another full field of 13 runners after Smooth Like Straight, Emaratty and Dark Shift were scratched. The numberFire data projects Santin (7/2) with jockey Tyler Gaffaloine and Casa Creed (5/1) with Luis Saez riding to battle for the win.

But HRN rates Annapolis (10/1) and Ivar (6/1) as top win contenders and value plays. Classic Causeway (20/1) and Set Piece (15/1) are longshots to include underneath in Exacta and Trifecta wagering at FanDuel Racing.

Annapolis is a 3-year-old with a lot of upside who has finished first or second in all six of his races, including four graded stakes races. He's ridden by Irad Ortiz, Jr. Ivar is a 6-year-old in top form who finished second behind the top European miler.
