Keeneland Horse Racing Picks for Saturday 10/22/22

Updated:

Starting at 1:00 p.m. ET, we have 10 races Saturday at Keeneland.

As always, check the program for scratches and changes, and monitor the weather and track conditions.

(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions).

Race 6 is the 14th running of the $250,000 Perryville Stakes for 3-year-olds at 7 furlongs. The heavy favorite Gunite (6/5) is the top pick by numberFire's data with Of a Revolution (5/1) and Artorius (5/2) projected to finish in-the-money.

Gunite is a son of the great Gun Runner and ridden by leading jockey Tyler Gaffalione for HOF trainer Steve Asmussen. He'll break from the outside No. 8 post, and Gunite has won 3-of-4 stakes starts this year with strong triple-digit speed figures, including last month by 3 lengths at this distance.

2. Strong Quality and Gate Runner, Race 8

FanDuel Racing Odds: 3/1 and 20/1

Race 8 is an Allowance race with 12 runners going 1 1/8 miles. The favorite on the rail is War Campaign (2/1). But the numberFire algorithm projects Strong Quality (3/1) from the outside to take money and win ahead of Kissalot (3/1) and War Campaign.

Longshots Anejo (15/1) and Gate Runner (15/1) with top jockey Luis Saez riding for the meets leading trainer Todd Pletcher can outrun their odds. Saez and Gaffalione lead the Keeneland meet with 11 wins each.

3. Wicked Halo and Fingal's Cave, Race 9

FanDuel Racing Odds:3/1 and 5/2

Race 9 is the 24th running of the $350,000 Raven Run Stakes (G2) for 3-year-old fillies at 7 furlongs. The numberFire projections rate Wicked Halo (3/1) the close winner ahead of the favorite Smash Ticket (5/2).

Wicked Halo has won three straight stakes with his best ever speed figure (96) last race in Sept. He's ridden by Tyler Gaffalione for trainer Steve Asmusen.

Smash Ticket has won all three starts this year with triple digit speed figures. In his only graded stakes start, he finished third last year out West at Del Mar.

Fingal's Cave (4/1) has won all four of his starts including a stakes at this distance last race. Top jockey Joel Rosario rides him for the first time off back-to-back 97 speed figures.
