Keeneland Horse Racing Picks for Saturday 10/15/22

Updated:

Starting at 1:00 p.m. ET, we have 10 races Saturday at Keeneland including a major featured stakes race.

As always, check the program for scratches and changes, and monitor the weather and track conditions.

(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races -- adjusted for track, distances, and conditions).

Race 5 is an Allowance race at 1 1/16 miles on the turf. The numberFire data projects European runners In Love (3/1) and Mouillage (2/1) to decide the winner with Kentucky Ghost (5/1) looking to steal the race late.

Favorite Mouillage drops down in class and gets Lasix for the first time. Leading jockey Irad Ortiz, Jr. rides for top trainer Chad Brown.

2. Safe Trip Home and Worthington, Race 7

FanDuel Racing Odds: 20/1 and 7/2

Race 7 is a Maiden Special Weight for 2-year-olds going 1-mile on the turf. Big longshots and debut runners Safe Trip Home (20/1) and My Sanctuary (15/1) are top challengers to win, according to the numberFire data. Worthington (7/2) is a key challenger with a route pedigree who can benefit from a less than fast pace he chased last race when finishing third.

3. Bellabel and Paris Peacock, Race 9

FanDuel Racing Odds: 5/1 and 10/1

Race 9 is the $600,000 Queen Elizabeth Challenge Cup (G1) for 3-year-old fillies going 1 1/8 miles on the turf. The numberFire projection picks the favorite Mckulick (1/1) to win ahead of New Year's Eve (9/2) and Bellabel (5/1), who is the top 3-year-old filly running in California and competed well in Ireland previously.

Mckulick has finished first or second in 6-of-7 starts, and she has a strong closing kick from just off the projected slower pace. No value at even money or better, and we'll shoot for a better payout.

Bellabel ran second in the Grade 1 Delmar Oaks two months ago. The winner of that race would be a heavy favorite in this QE Challenge. Trainer Chad Brown has two runners in this race, Mckulick with Irad Ortiz, Jr. riding, and Gina Romantica (7/2) with jockey Flavien Prat aboard.

Horse Racing Nation and the Super Screener race projection has Mckulick, Bellabel and top value Paris Peacock (10/1) as top win contenders.

Paris Peacock is in from Ireland and the meets leading jockey Florent Geroux rides. Paris Peacock won her two recent races impressively, and she's 7 for 9 in the Exacta and is comfortable on firm or soft turf.
