Keeneland Horse Racing Picks for Friday 4/21/23

The three-week Keeneland Spring Meet continues on Friday with 10 races and a post time of 1 p.m. ET.

As always, check the program for scratches and changes, monitor the weather and keep an eye on the track conditions.

(I will reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races after adjusting for track, distances, and conditions).

1. Jump Into the Fire and Royal Take Charge, Race 3

Race 3 is an Allowance race for older fillies and mares at 1 1/8 miles. The favorite Illogami (8/5) is scratched, and the numberFire data projected Jump Into the Fire (7/2) to win while Guaranteed Tip Sheet goes with Royal Take Charge (2/1).

2. Shesasmalltowngirl and Check Engine Light, Race 7

Race 7 is a Maiden Special Weight for 3-year-olds fillies at 6 1/2 furlongs. The top win contender by GTS and numberFire's data is Check Engine Light (9/2) with top jockey Luis Saez up. Truly Grateful (9/2) makes her debut with leading jockey Irad Ortiz, Jr. riding and Shesasmalltowngirl (7/2) with Tyler Gaffalione in the irons are main contenders.

Check Engine Light finished second in Feb. going a mile as a pace-pressing favorite but missed the board in her stakes debut last month. Shesasmalltowngirl finished third last month with a better speed figure (81).

3. Interstatedaydream and Hidden Connection, Race 9

Race 9 is the $300,000 Grade 3 Baird Doubledogdare Stakes for older fillies and mares at 1 1/16 miles. The numberFire data and Guaranteed Tip Sheet pick Interstatedaydream (6/5) for EPO trainer Brad Cox. Guaranteed Tip Sheet notes Interstatedaydream has run well in the past without Lasix and is making her second start off a layoff.

Hidden Connection (4/1) could get a perfect setup from an outside post. Green Up (3/1) has beaten the top pick before but needs to prove she can run without Lasix. Traverse (8/1) could add value to your exacta and trifecta bets.
