Justin Fields' 2021 MVP Odds Are Incredibly High

Updated:

The Chicago Bears traded up in the 2021 NFL Draft to the No. 11 pick to land their next potential franchise quarterback in Justin Fields. Still, Andy Dalton seems like an obvious starter under center for at least the beginning of this season while Fields develops. For a backup option, Fields' 2021 MVP odds are incredibly high.

Following the draft, Fields' odds are set at +15000, according to NFL future odds posted on FanDuel Sportsbook.

Justin Fields MVP Odds

Even as the No. 11 overall pick, Fields owns the third-best MVP odds amongst the 2021 NFL Draft class. His +15000 mark ranks behind only No. 1 pick Trevor Lawrence (+9000), who will almost certainly be a game one starter, and the No. 3 pick Trey Lance (+12000). His odds also rank higher than two of the five quarterbacks taken in the first round including No. 2 pick Zach Wilson (+18000) and No. 15 pick Mac Jones (+18000). Wilson will almost definitely also be a Week 1 starter.

It's possible that Fields remains a backup to Dalton for the entire season, proving his MVP odds are incredibly high. Chicago went 8-8 last season despite underwhelming performances at quarterback. The Mitchell Trubisky experiment ended in 2020 and gave Chicago hopes of finding their next franchise quarterback. The 2021 NFL Draft class of quarterbacks was just too talented to pass up on.

Fields will need to win the starting job first before having any hopes of taking home the MVP trophy. If he does win the job, however, there are some expectations of great things. Fields also opened up with the second-favorite odds to take home the 2021 Offensive NFL Rookie of the Year trophy at +550. He trails only Lawrence in that mark.

The quarterback competition in Chicago will be interesting, especially given the current status of Fields' odds for some of the league's major hardware.
