JuJu Smith-Schuster Fantasy Outlook & Injury Update 2022 (Expect Him to Thrive in Kansas City)

JuJu Smith-Schuster Fantasy Outlook & Injury Update 2022 (Expect Him to Thrive in Kansas City)

Updated:

JuJu Smith-Schuster impressed the world with a huge sophomore performance back in 2018. He hasn't come close to reaching those heights since then, especially after a shoulder injury held him to just five games last year. Now, he hopes to return to fantasy prominence as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Chiefs have one of the NFL's top offenses annually, offering Smith-Schuster a great opportunity to bounce back. But just what heights will he reach after ending the 2021 fantasy season as the WR133 in PPR formats?

JuJu Smith-Schuster Fantasy Football Outlook

Even in the games that he did play with the Pittsburgh Steelers last season, Smith-Schuster didn't look like himself. The former USC wideout caught only 53.6% of his targets — a career-worst rate — for 15 receptions and 129 yards without a touchdown.

Fast forward to 2022 where Smith-Schuster has the opportunity to become Patrick Mahomes' No. 1 WR following Tyreek Hill's departure this offseason. Considering that Hill saw 159 passes thrown his way last year, Smith-Schuster must do what he can to secure those targets.

There's certainly an opportunity for Smith-Schuster to have his most successful campaign to date this fall. The Chiefs' offense is always flying high and if he can have the type of connection with Mahomes in the regular season as he's shown in training camp, the sky could be the limit.

JuJu Smith-Schuster Injury Update

No news is always great news when it comes to injuries and that's the case with Smith-Schuster. He's been a full participant throughout training camp and his ability to make acrobatic catches proves that he's made a full recovery from his shoulder injury.

Unless he re-aggravates his injury at any time during the preseason, assume that Smith-Schuster will be 100% healthy for the beginning of the 2022 campaign.

JuJu Smith-Schuster Projections

Projections from the NFL odds on FanDuel Sportsbook aren't anything too special for Smith-Schuster. He owns +5000 odds (T-No. 26) to lead the league in receiving yards while also being available at +3100 (No. 18) to be the 2022 NFL receiving TDs leader.

Is JuJu Smith-Schuster a Good Fantasy Football Pick?

I think that Smith-Schuster is a fantasy pick that can catch a lot of people off guard in a good way this year. People might be low on him due to his injury history and uninspiring play over the last few seasons, but playing with prime Mahomes is a significant improvement over the shell of Ben Roethlisberger from the last few seasons.

The Duel lists Smith-Schuster as the WR33 when it comes to PPR position rankings. Fantasy Pros also has his average draft position at 84.5, making him someone that likely won't be on the board when Round 8 starts in 12-team formats.
