Jonathan Taylor Fantasy Outlook Gets Boost From Encouraging Injury Update

Updated:

The Indianapolis Colts lost to the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, 24-17, and Jonathan Taylor's underwhelming performance was a big reason why. He turned 20 carries into a season-low 42 rushing yards (2.1 yards per carry) and had 1 catch for 1 yard. He also failed to score a touchdown for the third consecutive week.

After the game, it was revealed that Taylor was dealing with an ankle injury. Thankfully for the Colts and his fantasy managers, the injury does not appear to be serious.

While Taylor's injury may have contributed to his poor Week 4 performance (especially after he missed his first practice in years), it seems unlikely to cause him to miss time in the near future.

Last year's leading rusher has remained the Colts' bell cow this season, racking up 81 rushing attempts and 328 rushing yards through the first four weeks. That heavy workload may be starting to catch up to him, however, as he's struggled with his efficiency lately. His rate of 4.0 yards per carry this season is well below last year's 5.5 mark, and he's been even worse lately with 2.8 yards per attempt over his last two games.

Even if Taylor's ankle injury is affecting him, it seems like the 23-year-old will try to play through it. The 1-2-1 Colts are counting on him to be the centerpiece of their offense and have a quick turnaround before traveling to Denver for their Week 5 clash against the Broncos on Thursday Night Football.

Assuming Taylor plays, he'll try to help Indy pull off an upset as 3-point road underdogs on FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds. Fantasy managers may want to temper their expectations if he's still banged up, however, especially against a Denver defense that's allowed the fifth-fewest points and fourth-fewest yards in the NFL thus far.
