2023 Australian Open Women's Quarterfinal Match
No. 3 Jessica Pegula vs No. 24 Victoria Azarenka
Date: Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2023
Start Time: 3 a.m. ET
Venue: Rod Laver Arena — Melbourne, Australia

The Australian Open's quarterfinals are here and the women's side features several thrilling matchups, including a tilt between No. 3 Jessica Pegula and No. 24 Victoria Azarenka.

Pegula — the tournament's highest remaining seed — has yet to lose a set in Melbourne, most recently sweeping No. 20 Barbora Krejcikova over the weekend. She'll have her hands full with Azarenka, who is coming off a three-set win over Lin Zhu.

Pegula vs Azarenka Head-to-Head Stats & Betting Trends

- Jessica Pegula is 2-2 in four all-time head-to-head meetings with Victoria Azarenka.
- Pegula defeated Azarenka in two sets at the Guadalajara Open in their last meeting on Oct. 22, 2022.
- This is Pegula's third straight year making it to the Australian Open quarterfinals.
- Azarenka is a two-time Australian Open Champion (2012, 2013).
- Pegula defeated No. 20 Barbora Krejcikova in two sets in Round 4 of the 2023 Australian Open.
- Azarenka defeated Lin Zhu in three sets in Round 4 of the 2023 Australian Open.

Pegula vs Azarenka Prediction & Pick

Although Victoria Azarenka is a two-time Australian Open winner, Jessica Pegula is playing on another level. As mentioned before, Pegula has yet to lose a set in Melbourne this year and has only lost more than two games twice. Meanwhile, Azarenka has been given a run for her money, needing three sets to beat each of her last two opponents.

Given that Pegula already defeated Azarenka at the 2019 Australian Open, I see the No. 3 seed advancing to the semifinals. While I do see Azarenka winning a set here, her best days are behind her, proven by the fact that she hasn't made it beyond the quarterfinals at Melbourne since 2013.

Look for Pegula to reach her first-ever grand slam semifinal.

Pegula vs Azarenka Best Bet

Though Azarenka has won each of her last two matchups, she got off to a low start in both of them, losing the first set in each bout. With Pegula having yet to lose a set this tournament, it'd be far from surprising if Azarenka was playing from behind once again.

As a result, I'm going with Pegula winning the first set as the best bet this time around.

Bet: Jessica Pegula to Win First Set (-205)
