The Jacksonville Jaguars will look to earn their first road victory since the 2019 NFL season when they travel to take on the Washington Commanders in Week 1 action. It'll be the first chance to see new head coach Doug Pederson and third-year quarterback Trevor Lawrence working together.

Meanwhile, Washington has a new quarterback in town. Carson Wentz is now leading an offense highlighted by a talented wide receiver duo in Terry McLaurin and Jahan Dotson. The Commanders have their eyes set on securing a NFL playoff berth for just the fourth time in the last decade.

Updated (Sunday, Sept. 11, 11:50 a.m. EST): Updated odds were provided from FanDuel Sportsbook. Money has come in on the Jaguars, who saw their spread fall from 3.5-point underdogs to just 2.5 points.

The Commanders enter this contest as a small favorite on the moneyline and the spread. This 1 p.m. ET clash also features one of the lower projected totals (43.5) on the NFL Week 1 slate.

Jaguars vs Commanders Prediction & Pick

There's no denying that this game could go either way. The Jaguars have notably struggled on the road, losing each of their last 17 away games. However, Washington hasn't exactly been stellar at home, either. The Commanders have posted a 6-10 record at FedEx Field since the start of 2021.

Familiarity is going to be the key here. This will be Wentz's first taste of running the Washington offense for head coach Ron Rivera. Lawrence may also have a new head coach, but he was worked with the weapons in front of him before. That is the advantage that will result in an upset victory.

Final Score Prediction: Jaguars: 21 | Commanders: 20

Jaguars vs Commanders Betting Trends

- Jacksonville is 0-17 straight up in its last 17 away games.
- The total has hit the under in four of Jacksonville's last five games in September.
- Washington is 6-1 against the spread (ATS) in its last seven games against Jacksonville.
- The total has hit the under in each of Washington's last five home games.

Jaguars vs Commanders Best Bet

Both of these teams were cash cows in 2021 when it came to betting the under in total points scored. The total hit the under in 12 of the Jaguars' 17 games overall and six of the Commanders' eight home games last season. Expect the same result with two underwhelming offenses going head-to-head.

Washington also posted the eighth-highest rushing play percentage in the NFL last season (44.6%), which goes to show that Rivera is not afraid to lean on the ground game no matter what the score is. This matchup has all the makings of a game that features numerous punts and a fast-running clock.
