Is Anthony Davis Playing Tonight? (Latest Injury Updates and News for Spurs vs. Lakers on Jan. 25)

Updated:

The Los Angeles Lakers are back in action on Wednesday night as they face the San Antonio Spurs at 10:30 p.m. ET. One player's status to keep an eye on ahead of tip-off is Anthony Davis, who's eyeing a return after being out of commission for over a month.

Anthony Davis Injury Update (1/25/2023)

The latest update on Davis is fantastic news for LA. The All-Star big man is expected to be in the lineup on Wednesday, barring any setbacks, according to ESPN's Dave McMenamin.

The Lakers have sorely missed Davis, who initially went down on Dec. 16 against the Denver Nuggets. He subsequently missed the team's next 20 games while he nursed a bone spur and stress reaction in his right foot.

Davis' return will provide an immediate boost to a team that's hung in the playoff conversation while he's been sidelined. He was on a tear to begin the year, averaging 27.4 points and 12.1 rebounds per game over his first 25 appearances.

Now the dominant paint presence will join forces again with an absolutely on-fire LeBron James, setting the Lakers up to make a serious run at the play-in tournament in the second half of the season.

Anthony Davis Fantasy Outlook and Prop Bets Today

No player props are currently listed for the Spurs-Lakers matchup, according to FanDuel Sportsbook's NBA odds, given the statuses of Davis and James still need to be finalized. However, even if Davis is active, he's not one to target from a betting perspective tonight. He'll likely need several games to get back to his usual form following over a month on the sidelines. LA is also certainly capable of blowing out San Antonio, which could result in Davis being pulled early.

Davis is an avoid on FanDuel DFS for a lot of the same reasons. He's priced at his pre-injury self, checking in at $10,700 on Wednesday. Though he's worth that premium when 100%, there's no telling how he'll look after a month off. It seems extremely likely he doesn't provide a return big enough to justify the cost.
